Are Superheroes Real?

Tonight my wife and I went to see Wolverine. I was worried for a minute we weren't gonna get out the door and my tough question for the evening was going to be, "Am I cute?" Fortunately, the answer tonight was yes, and we had a nice night out at the movies.

So tonight I will attempt to answer the question, "Are superheroes real?" I know, I know. No way, right?

But wait!

As it turns out, San Diego has its own superhero. He calls himself Mr. Xtreme, and just in case you've never heard of him (as if THAT were possible), here's a little introduction!

No superpowers. Just a mask and a stun gun. He did once stop a case of road rage from escalating into a fight though!

It just makes me think. All my life, I've known I was put here on earth for something special. And since I was a young boy, I've been waiting for that horrible industrial accident that will give me the superpowers that are my destiny! I even work in a high-tech industrial manufacturing facility! It's just a matter of time!!

(Incidentally, if anyone knows where I can find a vat of toxic waste, please let me know. But it has to be yellow and bubbling. I don't know why. It just does.)

The other kind of superhero is the Dietrich Bonhoeffer type. You know him, right? He was a theologian who had come over to the U.S. just before WWII. But when the Nazis came to power, he felt it was his obligation to return to Germany to do what he could. He ended up dying a martyr's death.

Bonhoeffer is awesome. Even Mr. Xtreme is cool, in his own way. As for me, I want big adamantium claws. And I want to fly.

  1. I advise that you stay away from vats of toxic bubbling waste. Your powers might turn out evil like the joker.

Also, who was asking the question, you or Julie? :)
